How do “Kentucky Farmers Feed the Hungry”? Kentucky students have until April 7 to submit original works to answer that question in the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s (KDA’s) and Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom’s 17th annual Poster and Essay Contest.
“In a state with such abundance and such a rich agricultural heritage as Kentucky, no one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from,” Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles said. “This contest will enable Kentucky school children to learn how our farmers are working to reduce the hunger problem in Kentucky.”
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade may produce a poster, an essay, or a digital image on the theme.
Statewide poster and essay winners from each grade will be chosen, and an overall digital winner will be selected. Each statewide grade winner and the digital art winner will receive a $100 award and will be recognized at an awards ceremony later in 2017.
Entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 7 and mailed to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, 111 Corporate Drive, Frankfort, KY 40601.
A completed entry form must be taped or glued to the back of each entry.
A completed teacher form must accompany all posters and essays from the teacher’s class.
Winners will be notified by May 1.
