Gateway to expand nursing program in fall, adding 24 nursing students; apply online

The Gateway Community & Technical College nursing program will expand in August by adding a fall 2017 cohort of 24 nursing students.

“As the economy shifts and healthcare evolves, the need for nursing in the community is at an all-time high. Gateway Community & Technical College recognizes this need and continues its commitment to nursing excellence in Northern Kentucky,” said Melani Stephens Stallkamp, Gateway Nursing program director.

“This new cohort gives us the opportunity to serve more students and help them achieve their dream of becoming a nurse.”

Students interested in entering the nursing program this fall should complete a Gateway application online and indicate interest in the nursing program. Selection for the fall class will take place later this year.

Other great news for Gateway’s nursing program comes from the Kentucky Board of Nursing announcement that Gateway students have a 100 percent pass rate on the 2016 National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

This means that in addition to earning an Associate degree in Nursing from Gateway, every member of the 2015 nursing class passed the national exam. The 2016 class is well on the way to the same accomplishment.

“We are so proud of the hard work and dedication our nursing students exhibited to achieve their goals. This is a very challenging program, and the staff and faculty who prepare our students to succeed also deserve the highest praise,” said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, Gateway Community & Technical College president.

“We believe in increasing opportunities for rewarding high wage, high demand careers for our students and community. Gateway not only offers the opportunity, but also provides community that comes around the student to assure success.”
