Cincinnati Public Radio steps into breach left by sale of WNKU, offering AAA music format

In response to the announcement of the sale of 89.7 WNKU at Northern Kentucky University, along with its Portsmouth, Ohio repeater, Cincinnati Public Radio’s President and General Manager, Richard Eiswerth, has issued the following statement:

“The loss of a fellow public radio station is a loss to all who appreciate listener-supported, non-commercial radio, the last true outlet for intelligent, provocative and community-inspired broadcasting. WNKU has provided an invaluable service to its listeners and to the local music community it serves and it will be missed.

“In an effort to fill the gap the loss of WNKU leaves behind, effective Friday, February 17 at 10 a.m., fans of the AAA (adult album alternative) music format can now tune to 91.7 WVXU-HD2, or listen through our website (wvxu.org), to enjoy XPoNential Radio, an alternative music service from one of the country’s outstanding AAA public radio stations, WXPN in Philadelphia.

“Cincinnati Public Radio will also be exploring additional ways to serve the Greater Cincinnati music community. For now, we wish each employee at WNKU the very best as they navigate the upcoming transition and we thank them for all the years of great music.”
