Thursday race selections from Turfway Park

Turfway Park provides daily selections and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 12:

turfway-logoRACE 1
WAR POINT looked good winning last out and can make it two in a row with a similar performance. THANKLESS drops back in against bottom claimers after an even effort against better. He will be tough with Jimenez picking up the mount. BOOMER SIX woke up last out and three of his four career wins have come here at Turfway.

RACE 2
ROSE’S VALENWINE has shown big improvement in his two races over this track. He was much the best last out drawing away from the odds on favorite in the stretch and can win again despite the class hike. FROST OR FRIPPERY will win with anything close to his best performance but the class drop and the two dull efforts on the Poly are a reason for concern. SKY FIRE fits with these.

RACE 3
BULLZABOY was second at this level in his last race and looks best off of that performance. ONE BUCK ROMA has just three wins in 44 career starts but ran well here and is the one to beat. VALIDATED BLARNEY is a contender.

RACE 4
QUIGLEY’S CORNER just missed in her first start back after a four month layoff. She should move forward and appears to be in a good spot to get her maiden win with Gilligan picking up the mount for Paul McEntee. KNOCKOUT GIRL finished a length behind the top pick and figures to be the main competition again. GIRARDONI was a beaten favorite against bottom claimers but moves up in class off of that one and has the back class to be dangerous.

EASTERN MICHCHIEF gets the nod in a well matched race. BUY OR STEAL makes her third start back after a long layoff and looks dangerous in this spot. APPLE ADDIE has the speed to be on or near the lead but is suspect at this distance.

RACE 6
BAYSHORE DRIVE ran against the boys last out and pressed a fast pace before stopping in the stretch. This looks like an easier field and she rates the slight edge. IN THE SHOES likes this track. She comes off of a solid third place effort last out and a repeat of that one makes her the one to beat. SHE’SOVERTHEMOON has been off since November but has run against better and looks dangerous despite the layoff with Alonso Quinonez in the saddle for Ben Colebrook.

RACE 7
HARD LUCK MONK was a beaten favorite last out but is capable of winning this one with a similar effort with Gilligan back aboard. RAY’S AWAY has been off since June but has run well off of the layoff in the past and looks like the one to catch. SWEAR also comes off of a layoff but has run well over this track and is a contender.

RACE 8
CAT’S IN THE MOOD loves this track. He has been first or second in all seven of his races here and looked good drawing off to win last out. He moves up the claiming ladder but is capable of making it two in a row for Larry Holt with Lagunes back up. SAINT PRADO has been running well for Kim Hammond and drops back in for a tag tonight. MUTATION ran poorly as the favorite in his Turfway debut but was claimed by Hammond and has to be considered.

RACE 9
QUALITY STREET didn’t break sharply last out and dropped back to finish last. Throw that one out and she figures to be able to win this one with anything close to her best performance. MOJA NAGRODA has been second in her last two and will be running at the end. REMEMBER ROSIE should get a good trip from the inside post.
