A group of Sullivan University System administrators have been invited to The White House to celebrate the university’s designation as a White House Healthy Campus and to hear remarks from First Lady Michelle Obama.
Sullivan University and Spencerian College are among 350 schools nationwide participating in the White House Healthy Campus Challenge and among those invited to the Jan. 13 White House event.
Sullivan University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees.
Sullivan University is a part of the Sullivan University System, which includes The Sullivan University Center for Learning in Fort Mitchell.
The university also has Kentucky campuses in Louisville and Lexington, an extension in Fort Knox, and an online division.
“Sullivan University was pleased to partner with federal officials and other colleges and universities across the United States to help students, faculty and staff understand how to acquire health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace,” said Sullivan University Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jay Marr. “Maintaining a healthy mind and body is essential to being focused on one’s collegiate studies, and having good, affordable healthcare coverage is paramount to achieving this goal.”

The White House Healthy Campus Challenge was launched as an effort to enroll more students and young people in the federal Health Insurance Marketplaces established by the Affordable Care Act. Both Sullivan University and Spencerian College will receive certificates of recognition signed by President Obama.
“Promoting higher education and making it more affordable … has been a central focus of the Obama Administration and our economic agenda,” White House Chief of Staff Dennis McDonough wrote in a post on the White House blog. “Having good, affordable coverage while getting an education can help provide Americans peace of mind and make sure that education doesn’t get unnecessarily sidetracked by a health problem.”
The same family of educators that lead The Sullivan University System today have been part of the century old Spencerian since 1926, with more than 90 years of uninterrupted service.
Spencerian College specializes in offering numerous healthcare programs and graduates hold positions in the business, medical, and technical fields all across the United States.

As with all schools participating in the challenge, Sullivan and Spencerian submitted an application to participate in the Challenge and committed to fulfilling a specific set of open enrollment outreach actions that included:
- Hosting in-person enrollment activities on campus
- Sending email reminders of approaching enrollment deadlines to students, staff, faculty, alumni and community neighbors
- Using social media platforms to highlight the open enrollment period
