Northern Kentucky University President Geoffrey S. Mearns will deliver his annual January Convocation address on Friday, Jan. 6.
President Mearns will share a brief history of the University’s growth, and he will provide an update on the University’s advocacy efforts.
Two faculty members will also deliver TED Talk-style presentations about the innovative work happening across campus to ensure NKU students succeed inside the classroom and beyond.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Bahrani, assistant professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Economic Education in the Haile/US Bank College of Business, will discuss the Econ Beats program. The semester-long project combines music and economics to reach – and teach – students in innovative ways.
Dr. Gannon Tagher, assistant professor of Nursing in the College of Health Professions, will discuss NKU’s growing use of health simulators to improve the classroom experience and deliver a high-tech learning experience for students that can also help improve health care outcomes.

The campus community will also enjoy a performance from NKU’s School of the Arts. Musical Theatre student Brittany Hayes will perform a song from her starring performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, accompanied on piano by Jamey Strawn, director of the Musical Theatre program.
The event begins at 9 a.m. in the James C. and Rachel M. Votruba Student Union Ballroom. It will also be broadcast live online at president.nku.edu/streaming.html.
