As the Commonwealth begins its 225th anniversary year, the Kentucky Lottery is updating the long-time draw game Kentucky Cash Ball to help mark the event.
Now known as Cash Ball 225, the $1 daily game offers a top prize of $225,000 along with seven other prizes. Drawn every evening, the Kentucky-based game functions much like the popular Powerball and Mega Millions games where two draw machines are used. Players try to match four numbers drawn from 35 in the first draw machine, and the one Cash Ball number from 25 in the second draw machine.
Other changes in the game include better lower-tier prizes (including a free ticket option), and a simplification from the previous game by eliminating the 50 cent half share ticket and the bonus Kicker feature.
“Cash Ball has been a dependable performer for us for many years, but it was in need of a refresh,” said acting Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Marty Gibbs. “By simplifying the game and providing better prizes, we think more players will enjoy the game – and in turn, help us raise more proceeds for the college scholarship and grant programs we fund.”
Lottery staff will be conducting a Cash Ball 225 promotional tour in nine cities across the state from January 9th thru the 18th, with the chance to learn more about the updated game and win prizes.
In February, the lottery will join forces with the Kentucky Derby Festival to hold our popular Festival Fanatic promotion where non-winning Cash Ball 225 tickets can be used for entry. The winner will receive a variety of Kentucky Derby Festival VIP experiences, including serving as the 2017 Thundernator who starts Thunder Over Louisville.
Cash Ball was first sold in Kentucky in March 2001. In the last fiscal year the game accounted for $9.7 million in sales, a 3% drop from the previous fiscal year.
