Boone County Early Childhood Fair at Burlington Library offers information, free screenings, activities

The 13th Annual Boone County Early Childhood Fair takes place Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Boone County Public Library, Main Library, 1786 Burlington Pike in Burlington.

The Early Childhood Fair will provide families the opportunity to speak with local businesses, agencies, and schools about the educational, developmental, and recreational opportunities available to young children in the area.

More than 40 vendors will be available to answer questions about early childhood services, and provide information on how to support the growth and development of our youngest learners.  Visitors can also register to win door prizes.

Tales the Library dragon and Pete the Cat will be on-hand to meet and greet the kids and pose for photos. The Cincinnati Zoo will have live animals at the fair from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Dale the Balloon Twister will make balloon creations for kids from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Preschoolers will enjoy the specially designed preschool play area and the make and take craft activities.

Fun Free activities at the Early Childhood Fair include:

  • Door prizes
  • Pete the Cat and Tales the Library Dragon
  • Live animals from the Cincinnati Zoo (10-11 a.m.)
  • Dale the Balloon Twister (11 a.m. -12:30 p.m.)
  • Make and Take craft activities

Two free screening opportunities will be offered to families at the fair.

Boone County Community Early Childhood Council (CECC) will be sponsoring free developmental screenings by appointment for children ages one month to five years.

A screening will not only allow parents to catch problems early, but can also  provide reassurance that their child is acting, playing or speaking in ways that are expected at different ages.

At the end of the screening, parents will have a good understanding of what developmental milestones have been reached, what to expect next, and what activities can be done at home to support learning and development. They will also learn if their child needs additional services and where to find these resources.

Call 859-342-2665, extension 8138 to schedule a developmental screening.

The Kentucky Lions Club Kidsight program will provide vision screenings for children, ages one to five. No registration is needed for vision screenings.
