Sanitation District No.1 recognizes contractors for stormwater management efforts in the region

Sanitation District No. 1 (SD1) has recognized three area construction businesses as recipients of the 2016 Erosion Protection and Sediment Control Excellence Awards.

sd1The 11th annual awards recognize general contractor David Steinborn, with Toebben LTD, for work on Independence Square near state Route 17. Also receiving recognition are home builder Arlinghaus Builders LLC for work in various communities throughout the region and excavation contractor Art Snapp, with Arcat, for work on a stream construction project in the Ballyshannon subdivision.

“Erosion and sediment control is a challenging task that requires constant attention, but it is an essential element in protecting water quality and the landscape so current and future residents can thrive here for years to come,” said Andy Aman, SD1’s environmental compliance administrator. “The businesses recognized with this award show their commitment to this task by embracing best management practices at their job sites.”

Best management practices (BMPs) are design, construction and maintenance practices that minimize the impact of storm water runoff by holding it in place, slowing it down and filtering it for pollutants.

BMPs, such as silt fences and sediment basins, ensure that storm water runoff will not erode the soil and cause damage to property and the environment.

Award recipients were chosen based on their proactive approach to fixing storm water problems, timely implementation of BMPs and their projects’ minimal off-site impacts.

SD1 is responsible for the collection and treatment of Northern Kentucky’s wastewater as well as regional storm water management. It is the second largest public sewer utility in Kentucky, serving more than 290,000 residents throughout Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties.
