LEXI it is; votes are in (no recount coming) for name of Rupp Arena’s new giant videoboard

The votes have been tallied and the results are in: Rupp Arena’s new, state-of-the-art video board has been named “LEXI.”

The Lexington Center announced, during half time at the UK vs UCLA Mens’ Basketball Home Game, that the winner of the “Name the Video Board Contest” is Dan Parker, a 1972 UK Alumnus and former Track & Field athlete, from Santa Barbara, CA.

“I am thrilled to be the winner of the Naming Contest,” Parker said. “As a proud alumnus and former student athlete at UK, I will consider it a special honor when LEXI comes to life at Rupp Arena in December. I bleed BLUE and she will, too.”

The grand prize for the winning contest entry is two tickets to every public ticketed event in Rupp Arena for the 2017 season, including lower-level tickets to the 2016-17 UK Men’s Basketball Season, a private tour for 10 of the UK locker room at Rupp Arena, and a custom 40th Anniversary Rupp Arena Jacket.

Launched at Big Blue Madness on October 14th, the contest was held after the iconic speaker system ‘Big Bertha’ was retired and the new video array was installed.

The public was invited to vote on their favorite name by going to Rupp’s Facebook page and clicking on the appropriate reaction icon. Voting began on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 12 pm and ended Dec. 2 at 12 pm.

“Lexi” received 2,501 votes and the runner up entry, “Seymore,” submitted by Debbie Parrish of Nicholasville, received 1,411 votes.

Over 3,800 entries were submitted online and through US Postal Mail. Entrants were asked to include an explanation of the significance of the proposed name in 100 words or less.

The two finalists were selected by the LCC Board of Directors PR/Marketing Committee.
