Chamber Small Business Academy, Gateway partner for Microsoft, Professional Communications classes


This January the NKY Chamber launches the NKY Chamber Small Business Academy through a partnership with Cengage and Gateway Community & Technical College Workforce Solutions.

In an effort to help address workforce needs and support regional businesses, the NKY Chamber Small Business Academy offers essential business knowledge at affordable prices.

Participants can earn professional certificates or select just a course or two as well as receive training in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

“With lifelong learning being the reason for our existence, we are thrilled to be partnering with the NKY Chamber in sponsoring the Small Business Academy as well as having our employees participate.  We recognize learning should never stop and is very valuable to professionals in their work life and development,“ explains Mary Ann Gayheart, Executive Director, Human Resources at Cengage Learning. “Cengage’s mission is to enrich the relationship between educators and students by advancing the way students learn. Engagement is at our core and our focus is on engaging with learners with both in the classroom and beyond. 

Courses are taught by college level instructors with class related presentations by area executives and mentors from the NKY business community. Perks include attending classes with other busy working adults, free convenient parking, and refreshments.

Kicking-off in January with Microsoft and Professional Communications classes, the NKY Chamber Small Business Academy allows area employees an easy solution for affordable training.

MICROSOFT CLASSES

Microsoft Excel 2016, Level 1 – Learn to create, edit, & enhance Excel spreadsheets, manipulate charts, create formulas, & macros. Dates: January 17, 19, 24, & 26, Time: 6:00-8:15 pm, 9 hours total, Cost: $135

Microsoft Excel 2016, Level 2 – Learn to use advanced formulas & work with various tools to analyze data in spreadsheets. Organize table data, present data as charts, & enhance the look & appeal of workbooks by adding graphical objects. Dates: March 14, 16, 21, & 23, Time: 6:00-8:15 pm, 9 hours total, Cost: $135

Microsoft Word 2016, Level 1 – This course covers creating, editing, & formatting Word documents. Dates: April 18, 20, 25, & 27, Time: 6-8:15 pm, 9 hours total, Cost $135

Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 – This course will provide the knowledge needed to create professional presentations. Dates: May 2 & 4, Time: 6-9:00 pm, 6 hours total, Cost $100

All Microsoft courses will be held at: Gateway CTC Edgewood Campus, 790 Thomas More Parkway, Room EWS 216, Edgewood.

PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS CLASSES

Active Listening
– Learn how to improve results through active listening, the most impactful and effective level of listening. Encourage open two-way communication that enhances relationships and leads to better cooperation and problem-solving.
Dates: January 17 & 19, Time: 6-8:30 pm, 5 hours total, Cost: $215

Professional Communication – Participants will learn how to effectively and appropriately communicate including correspondence through email. Areas of concentration include your Personal Brand and the Four Core Areas of Professionalism.
Dates: February 21 & 23, Time: 6-9:00 pm, 6 hours Total, Cost: $250

Dynamic Presentations – Using the method of Define, Design, and Deliver, learn how to wow your audience with clear and confident presentations.
Dates: March 6, 8, 13, & 15, Time: 6-8:30 pm 10 hours total, Cost: $415

Constructive Dialogue – Without intentional direction and application of specific dialogue skills, leaders can miss the opportunity to maximize the effectiveness of conversations with employees. Learn how to ask the right questions and use effective strategies for giving and receiving feedback.
Dates: April 11 & 13, Time: 6:00-8:00 pm 4 hours total, Cost: $175

Effective Meeting Facilitation – This session will provide participants with tools to make the most effective use of time and team member talent when teams get together for a meeting. Lean the characteristics of highly effective meetings and common mistakes to avoid.
Dates: May 23 & 25, Time: 6:00-8:30 pm, 5 hours total, Cost $215.

Professional Communication Classes are all held at the NKY Chamber, 300 Buttermilk Pike, Third Floor, Ft. Mitchel. Each class can be taken individually or all sessions can be combined
for a Professional Communication Certification.
