During the month of October, Ace Hardware in Independence hosted a point-of-sale donation campaign to benefit Master Provisions.
Bill Winegardner, owner of the Ace Hardware store on Declaration Drive in Independence presented a check for $1556 to Roger Babik, President of Master Provisions, at the organization’s facility in Florence.
Throughout October, the Ace store displayed materials about Master Provisions’ local food outreach program and cashiers took donations from customers. Each donor was recognized by signing a card that was posted on a wall near the store’s entrance.
“Ace Hardware customers teamed up with us to provide 15,000 meals to people in our community,” said Roger Babik.
Master Provisions receives donated surplus from area food distributors and makes that food available to nonprofit partners who directly feed the hungry, such as soup kitchens, shelters, neighborhood food pantries or weekend food backpacks for school children. Master Provisions also provides food and logistical support for the Last Saturday mobile food pantries that serve an average of 600 families each month in Covington and Ludlow.
“I believe in the mission of Master Provisions to provide food, clothing and orphan care locally and globally,” Bill Winegardner said. “Our customers are the heroes in this project because they care about feeding hungry people. They believe in helping our neighbors in need.”
