Visit from “The Renegades,” Honor Run highlight Veterans Day weekend activities in Florence

The City of Florence has announced times, dates and details for its Veterans Day weekend activities.

Community members are invited to honor Military Veterans of all wars for their sacrifice and service to our country at the City’s Veterans Day celebration, Friday, Nov. 11, beginning at 6 p.m.

The City’s adopted military unit, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), will be on hand for the ceremony.

Capt. Joseph C. Knight from the unit, which is also known as the Renegades, will be the featured speaker.

The City of Florence adopted the Renegades, who are based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The City has supported the unit with community donations during deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and the Renegades have developed a strong bond with the community over the years.

Darin Smith from the Boone County Imagineering Academy who will speak about a project involving veterans in the Florence Cemetery adopted troop .

The program will include patriotic tunes performed by the Florence Community Band & Chorus and will recognize the contributions by all Veterans.

Honor Run

The 3rd annual Honor Run Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 13, beginning at 7 a.m.

honor-run-logo The race, which is a rolling 13.1 mile course throughout the City of Florence and parts of unincorporated Boone County, will start and finish at the iconic Florence Y’all water tower.

Events include the Half Marathon, 2-Person Relay, and Kids One Mile.

Streets along the race route will be closed at 6:45 a.m. and will reopen once the race is complete.

All proceeds from the run will go to Honor Flight Tri-State and will help send local veterans who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Washington D.C. to view their respective memorials.
