Two killed, two injured in single-vehicle accident on North Bend Road in Hebron Saturday night

Two people were killed and two others injured in a single-car accident on North Bend Road near River Road in Hebron Saturday night.

A 2013 Dodge Dart, driven by Rama Varahabhatla, 35, was traveling Northbound on North Bend Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and exited the roadway. The vehicle became airborne, overturned and struck a tree.

Passenger Benkat Prashant Kommu, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene. Raja Sakar Reddy Yarmala, 25, was transported by AirCare to University Hospital in Cincinnati, where he later died.

Varahabhatla was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Florence with non-life threatening injuries. The fourth passenger, Anvesh Kumar, 24, was transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

North Bend Road was closed for several hours following the accident, but has since reopened.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department issued the following statement regarding the accident.

On Saturday, October 22, 2016 at approximately 10:15 p.m. a single vehicle traffic collision on North Bend Road (KY 237) near River Road (KY 8) in Hebron, Kentucky claimed the life of two passengers and sent the driver and another passenger to area hospitals with injuries.

A 2013 4-door Dodge Dart, operated by Rama Varahabhatla, 35 of Louisville, Kentucky was traveling northbound North Bend Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and exited the roadway off the right side.

The vehicle then became airborne, overturned, and struck a tree in a nearby embankment.  Mr. Varahabhatla became entrapped and was extricated from the vehicle by Hebron Fire/EMS.

The front passenger, identified as Raja Sakar Reddy Yarmala, 25 of Louisville, Kentucky, became entrapped and was extricated from the vehicle by Hebron Fire/EMS.  The right rear passenger, identified as Benkat Prashant Kommu, 27 of Louisville, Kentucky, was ejected from the vehicle. 

The left rear passenger, identified as Anvesh Kumar, 24 of Louisville, Kentucky, became entrapped and was extricated from the vehicle by Hebron Fire/EMS.

Mr. Kommu was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained during the collision and ejection.  Mr. Yarmala was transported by AirCare medical helicopter to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio with life threatening injuries, however, succumbed to his injuries at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016. 

Mr. Kumar was transported to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio with non-life threatening injuries.  Mr. Varahabhatla was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Florence with non-life threatening injuries. 

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating, trying to determine the cause of the collision.  No charges have been filed against the driver, who is cooperating with the investigation.  North Bend Road near River Road remained closed during the investigation however has since fully reopened as of 2:40 a.m.

Next of kin have been notified.
