Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati (HFHGC) has been helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter for the last 30 years.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, Habitat will be teaming up with local organizations to conduct exterior home repairs and a neighborhood clean-up project. Joining with HFHGC are the City of Newport, Buena Vista Historic Foundation, Neighborhood Foundations, and Huntington Bank.
In addition to HFHGC’s exterior home repair projects, the combined organizations are calling all Newport neighbors to help Rock the Block.

Rock the Block is a neighborhood clean-up day with exterior home repair and maintenance, such as painting and landscaping. Rock the Block is also Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All are welcome at the kick-off event at 9 a.m. at Buena Vista Park located at West 12th Street in Newport.
Buena Vista Park will also serve as the volunteer communication center for Rock the Block, which will serve the blocks within West 8th, York, West 12th, and Lowell streets.
The event will celebrate community and hope, rain or shine, and includes a Closing Ceremony from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Buena Vista Park.
While this year’s Rock the Block will serve up to six selected exterior home repair host sites, all neighbors are encouraged to participate.
Rock the Block calls all neighbors, homeowners and renters, to be outside together, working in the yard, maintaining their homes, and having fun.
In addition to exterior home repair projects, volunteers will support a neighborhood trash pick-up effort. Three large dumpsters will be available for trash drop-off at 1011 Columbia Street, in front of The Salvation Army at 340 W. 10th Street, and in front of Neighborhood Foundations’ property at the corner of W. 9th and Isabella streets.
