Florence Rotary Partners with Boone County Public Library for October Steinford Toy Drive Collection

The Florence Rotary Club is excited to be partnering with the Boone County Public Library during the month of October for an early collection event for the Steinford Toy Drive.

steinford-toy-logoPatrons can bring a new or gently used toy or book to any Boone County Public Library location during the month of October.  No donation is too large or too small. There are collection barrels at each library location.

The library will be hosting an indoor Trick or Treating event on Monday, October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at all locations.  Visitors are encouraged to bring trick or treaters, candy and an item for the Steinford Toy Drive collection.

During the Great Depression, a Northern Kentucky couple, Rose and George Steinford, witnessed many needy children in their neighborhood who were not experiencing the joys of Christmas. Rose and George, who had no children of their own, assumed the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus by purchasing, repairing and distributing used toys to these children.

rotary-intlToday, that tradition is continued through the Steinford Toy Foundation, founded in 1973, and the Foundation’s volunteers that collect and distribute the toys. Last year more than 4,000 children in Northern Kentucky were served, up from more than 3,000 the previous year.
