While it’s been weeks since the storm hit, Duke Energy is deploying additional resources from the Ohio and Kentucky gas operations team to the Carolinas to help with restoration efforts still plaguing areas of North Carolina from Hurricane Matthew due to flooding.

Trucks lined up and crews departed from Duke Energy’s Erlanger District Office Saturday morning.

The Duke Energy team included support staff and specialized equipment that will be heading to Fayetteville and Goldsboro, N.C., where they will be dispatched to the flooded areas in the region to assist the Piedmont Natural Gas, a sister company of Duke Energy.

This is the first time Duke’s gas department has ever traveled to assist with story efforts or mutual aid, said Sally Thelen of Duke Energy’s corporate communications.

The type of work crews will be doing in North Carolina:

· Monitoring gas lines to ensure the safety and integrity of the natural gas pipeline operating system.

· Assisting the Piedmont Gas crews with routine maintenance of gas lines that were underwater after Hurricane Matthew. This may include the replacement and testing of meter and regulating equipment.

· Helping to clean valves and other critical assets associated with operating the pipeline that may have been caked with mud and debris.
