Rain stops Freedom finale with Gateway; River City in for final three home games of year

Rain came through the Florence area and forced the cancellation of the series finale between the Florence Freedom and the Gateway Grizzlies Sunday.

Since the teams do not face each other in a series again this season, the game will not be made up.

Both teams were scoreless in the first. Jeremy Gooding tossed a 1-2-3 top of the frame before the Freedom loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but did not score.

A thunderstorm came through the Florence area and forced the players off the field before the second inning. The delay lasted one hour and 57 minutes before the game was called.

The Freedom finished the season 6-5 against Gateway and swept the two-game series over this weekend.

The Freedom face the River City Rascals in a three-game series this coming Tuesday-Thursday. Game one is a 7:05 p.m. first pitch with Jordan Kraus (7-8, 3.45 ERA) on the hill for Florence.

These are the final three home games of the year for the Freedom. The teams will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday and 7:05 p.m. on Thursday.
