Kraus spins two-hit shutout, permits just three base runners, as Freedom blow by Windy City

The Florence Freedom rode Jordan Kraus’ two-hit shutout to a 3-0 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts Wednesday.

In the Freedom’s second shutout of the series, Kraus scattered just three base runners in his complete game. No Windy City (27-30) player reached second base as Kraus allowed two hits and one walk, while striking out six.

The Freedom (24-33) scored first in the second inning. Josh Henderson led off the inning with a walk and Isaac Wenrich put two in scoring position with a double. Mason Salazar came up next and knocked a groundout to the right side, allowing Henderson to cross the plate.

The Freedom benefitted from some great defensive work from Daniel Fraga. Twice, Fraga stole a hit away from Tim Zier, leaping to make a catch in the first and diving to his right to snag a liner in the sixth (Freedom Photo)

As Kraus continued to roll, the Freedom added two more in the fifth. Salazar launched his first career home run to left field, putting the Freedom ahead 2-0. After a one-out walk from Daniel Fraga, Taylor Oldham posted his eighth RBI in six games with a double down the left-field line. Oldham finished the six-game road trip 14-for-24 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs, five runs, and eight RBIs.

The Florence right-hander finished his complete game in style with a strikeout against Windy City’s top hitter, Corey Bass.

Salazar posted two RBIs for the Freedom, while Oldham plated the third one. Oldham finished with three hits, while Wenrich added the Freedom’s third extra-base hit with his double in the second.

Zier and Johnny Eierman were the only two to post hits for Windy City. Brady Muller took the loss, allowing all three runs in 4 1/3 innings. Austin Delmotte posted 1 2/3 scoreless for the ThunderBolts against his former team.

The Freedom will take a day off before hosting the Joliet Slammers on Friday, July 22. Jeremy Gooding (3-5, 3,95 ERA) will open up the series on the hill in a 7:05 p.m. start. To learn more about the upcoming promotions, click here.
