Police say Jeremy Carf of Aurora, Indiana was distraught over a breakup with his girlfriend and did not want to stop because he was “high and drunk.”

Carf was persuaded to stop near the Corinth exit on Interstate 75 and was taken into custody.

He is charged with  Speeding, Reckless driving, D.U.I., Fleeing or evading, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Operating on suspended or revoked license, and a Boone County Flagrant non-support arrest warrant.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office issued the following statement regarding the pursuit:

On Friday, July 22, 2016 at approximately 5:50 a.m. an Aurora, Indiana man was arrested on multiple charges after he led deputies on a 42 mile pursuit lasting nearly 50 minutes beginning at the 6.6 mile marker on I-275 and ending in Corinth, Kentucky. Throughout the chase there were a total of 5 different law enforcement agencies involved.

At 5:00 a.m. Deputy Drew Christian observed a Dodge Caravan going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone and attempted a traffic stop near the 5.5 mile maker on eastbound I-275. At first the van slowed but then the driver sped up and continued on.

Speeds varied anywhere from 40 to 80 mph. The driver went from I-275 to I-75 southbound where twice the deployment of stop sticks proved futile.

As they were traveling through Williamstown, Kentucky the driver telephoned Boone County Dispatch telling them he was scared to stop because he was high, drunk, and just broke up with his girlfriend.

The dispatcher was able to convince him to stop which he did near the Corinth, Kentucky exit.

Jeremy Carf, 37 of the 9,900 block of Cole Lane in Aurora, Indiana is *charged with Speeding (over 25mph of posted limit), Reckless driving, D.U.I., Fleeing or evading, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Operating on suspended or revoked license, and a Boone County Flagrant non-support arrest warrant.
