Thomas More sophomore Cook qualifies for NCAA Division III Track Championship in 400 meters


The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced the qualifiers for this week’s Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and Thomas More College sophomore Christina Cook (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) has been named a qualifier in the 400-meter dash.

The NCAA Championships will be May 26-28, 2016 at Walston-Hoover Stadium on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

This is the second-straight year that Cook has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the 400-meter dash. She qualified 21st in the 400-meters with a time of 55.86-seconds, which she set at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University on May 6.

Cook was named the 2016 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and the overall PAC Indoor Track & Field Most Valuable Player as she finished first in the 400-meter dash and in the 200-meter dash.

During the outdoor season she was the PAC champion in the 400-meter dash and in the 200-meter dash.

The 400-meter dash preliminaries will be ran at 6 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Central on Friday, May 27, and the finals will be ran at 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.
