Break out of cabin fever: Head to Ft. Thomas for Village Players’ The Women, starts tonight at 8 p.m.

If you are looking for a way to slough off cabin fever tonight, consider an outing to the Fort Thomas Womans Club’s Village Players production of The Women, a classic comedy written by Claire Boothe Luce. It follows a Manhattan socialite after she has found our her husband is cheating — and her friends are no help at all.

Directed by Amy Hamilton and produced by Gregory Carl Smith and Betsy Evans, the production starts at 8 p.m. at the club at 8 N.Ft. Thomas Ave.

If you can’t dig out for tonight, the production continues on Saturday, Feb 21, 8 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22, 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, 8 p.m., Friday, Feb 27, 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28, 8 p.m.

Clever, cut-throat, and delicious, the story is a satirical look into the lives of “the ladies who lunch” and the world that determines their behavior.

The Village Players were created in 1966. A group of the Fort Thomas Woman’s Club and others renovated and rebuilt the theater in the lower level of the club.The original seats were obtained from a renovated bowling alley.

Village Players is celebrating its 50th anniversary during the 2015–2016 season, remaining dedicated to producing first-class theatrical productions at a fair price.

The first season opened with a production of The Solid Gold Cadillac in May 1967.

In 1999, the theater, lobby, and dressing room were renovated. New seats were installed in the theater. A state-of-the-art computerized lighting system was installed. A modern sound system was added. Handicapped access to the theatre was added. In 2008, a complete rewiring of the stage lighting system was accomplished.
Currently the facility consists of the main theater with tiered seating for 102; a thrust stage; lighting and sound rooms; lobby; ticket booth; dressing room; check room; refreshment counter; restrooms; workshop; and costume/prop storage room.

Proceeds from the shows were go to charity. In addition, Village Players provides up to two scholarships per year to high school seniors majoring in the arts.

Village Players has received numerous awards from the Association of Community Theatres (ACT) and the Ohio Community Theatre Association (OCTA) over the years, competing at the regional and state levels of OCTA and the Kentucky Theatre Association (KTA).
